What is an FBO?

A fixed-base operator (FBO) is a private terminal at an airport that private jet charter planes use for arrivals and departures. An FBO is much smaller than a regular terminal, and is accessed via a private entrance and has its own parking. Most FBOS consist of a check-in desk, a waiting area or lounge, cafeteria or snack area, restrooms, meeting rooms and TSA security check area. The planes pull right up to the door where the Captain or First Officer for your flight will introduce themselves to you, and escort you to the aircraft, which is normally a short walk away. Boarding is usually 15 minutes in advance. Your bags will already be loaded. Your pet will have had access to a relief area. All of this makes the experience of departing through an FBO more comfortable and faster than departing through commercial terminals. When you arrive at the aircraft steps your dogs can make their own way up on leash or carried. Although the cost to travel by private charter is much more expensive, the peace of mind may be worth the price to you. Rather you and your pet can fully enjoy the experience rather than worry over your pet in cargo, each of you feeling stressed, or your pet getting lost in the system.
